The REI Co-op Mastercard® and the National Forest Foundation
Starting April 1, 2017, for every purchase you make with your REI Co-op Mastercard, REI will donate $0.10 to the National Forest Foundation1, up to $1 million total in 2017. That money will help fund restoration and infrastructure improvement projects throughout National Forests areas.
Yes, all net purchases (purchases minus credits and returns) will be applied towards REI’s donation to the National Forest Foundation (up to a $1MM donation in 2017).

Additional details: Non-Purchase transactions, including cash advances, convenience checks, balance transfer, and other advance transactions as defined in the Cardmember Agreement, as well as interest charges and fees, do not qualify. Transactions posted in late December 2017 may be applied to 2018 contributions. REI may change the benefit or named charity in future years. REI is solely responsible for making the donation.
The National Forest Foundation is the nonprofit partner of the U.S. Forest Service. It partners with the agency and thousands of Americans each year to promote the health and public enjoyment of our National Forests.
National Forests and Grasslands offer Americans 193 million spectacular acres of wild land. As a point of reference, this is more than double the 84 million acres under our National Park Service’s care. 170 million visits happen every year to our National Forests. Other important facts:
  • Seven in 10 Americans live within 100 miles of a National Forest
  • There are 155 National Forests, 20 National Grasslands, and 1 Tallgrass Prairie
  • 148,295: Total miles of trails to hike
  • 5,107: Number of campgrounds to pitch tents
  • 4,418: Total miles of wild and scenic rivers to float
  • 1,200: Number of boating sites
  • 9,126: Total miles of scenic byways to drive
REI and the National Forest Foundation will partner to fund key projects within the National Forest Foundation’s Treasured Landscapes program, which helps restore National Forests and Grasslands. This program improves wildlife habitat, recreation, pioneered post-fire restoration projects and increases the capacity of local groups to remain involved with forest stewardship.
REI has supported the National Forest Foundation for more than a decade, investing close to $300,000. The REI Co-op Mastercard contribution is a new program that deepens this relationship. Over the last decade, the partnership between REI and the National Forest Foundation has focused on stewardship, diversity and inclusion, youth trail projects, fire restoration and enhancing sustainable recreation. Since the National Forest Foundation and the National Forest Service are not as well-known as other government agencies for their recreation programs, we saw reason to provide a substantial increase in our support.
USING YOUR REI CO-OP Mastercard
Absolutely, your REI Co-op Mastercard can be used anywhere Mastercard is accepted. And the more you use your card, the bigger your REI Co-op Mastercard rebate. You’ll earn 1%2 on all eligible non-REI net purchases (purchases minus credits and returns). The 1% back on everyday purchases2 will be combined with 5% back3 on REI purchases and returned annually along with your REI dividend.
Yes, you can use your REI Co-op Mastercard and Personal Identification Number (PIN) for cash advances worldwide at any ATM that accepts Mastercard.
1% BACK DETAILS
No. Almost every non-REI purchase or payment transaction earns you 1% back,2 but interest charges and fees, balance transfers, convenience checks, cash advances and other advance transactions are not eligible to earn rewards. (At REI you earn 5% back3 on top of your member dividend — typically 10% on eligible purchases.4)
You will receive 5% back3 on all REI purchases, in addition to your member dividend (typically 10% on eligible REI purchases4). You will receive 1% back on all non-REI purchases2.
Your 1% back will be distributed with your member dividend annually.
